Women in Literature
ENGL 376.01
Assignment 1
What’s is Women in Literature? Why is it significant?
Women in Literature are the stories of women from all over the world. It is not just their history, its their lives depicted in a literary and creative essence. These stories contain their feelings, their thoughts, their hops and their dreams. These stories tell the tales of real women that wear many different masks and carry out certain behaviors associated with their societal roles. These women are mothers, daughters, sisters, aunts, grandmothers, single parents, workers, leaders, entertainers, accomplices, and friends. Women in Literature are extremely important because it helps to educate everyone in society about the other half of the population. Having knowledge of women in literature helps one to become more educated in the study of women and will help to break those detrimental stereotypes that portray women in a negative light.
Who do you admire and why?
Being an African American woman, some of the most influential women in literature are Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Zora Neal Hurston, and Sojourner Truth. The reason why I have chosen these women are because are because they depict the lives of African American women.
